 Come An' Get It

I've been thinking about how to help working families with the cost of childcare and wondered if a policy of allowing one of the parents the statutory right to work from home from the end of maternity leave up until the start of school of their children (about the age of 5) wouldn't go some way to achieve this.

Obviously I know that in some families it is simply not possible for either parent to work from home but thought something could be done for these people through the tax system to allow them to cover the cost of childcare.

The advantages of a scheme such as this could be numerous, for example, a lot less car journeys and journeys by public transport, a lowering of the cost of childcare generally due to reduced demand and hopefully a better bond between the parent and child in the all important formative years.

Just a quick thought on an otherwise quiet Tuesday.
